SlackPack's first mirror

Published on 2006-11-26 at 01:20:15 by  Georgi Sotirov

Today SlackPack got its first mirror. The packages repository will be hosted on marla.ludost.net thanks to the kind permission of Vasill Kolev. The initial synchronization take place on November 25-th, just after 1:00 AM and took about 10 minutes. About 1.3 GB of data were transfered. The mirror will be synchronized every 6 hours.

I hope that this way the packages will be always available even when my home server do down either by power failure or ISP problems.

For those who use automatic update tools following is the setup information:

  • For Slackware 11.0
    • swaret.conf
      REPOS_ROOT=SlackPack%http://slackpack.ludost.net/packages/11.0/
    • slapt-getrc
      SOURCE=SlackPack%http://slackpack.ludost.net/packages/11.0/
  • For Slackware 10.2
    • swaret.conf
      REPOS_ROOT=SlackPack%http://slackpack.ludost.net/packages/10.2/
    • slapt-getrc
      SOURCE=SlackPack%http://slackpack.ludost.net/packages/10.2/

Very soon the mirror will be added in the site interface, so you will be able to choose from where to download. I'm still looking for good international mirror where I can host almost 2 GB of data with tendency to increase over time. If you want to give space and traffic please contact me.

Today I'm pleased to announce the availability of SlackPack. This site will be the basic inteface to my Slackware packages repository. You can find here the full package information, its history and other formats. You can browse the database by category or Slackware version or you can search what you need through the quick search as well as the advanced query interface. Stay up to date with the real time feeds available for the new packages and site news.

This site should have been online months ago, but I didn't have time to complete it as I wanted. It's operational since September 2006, but was accessible only to some of my friends. Now I'm happy putting it online, because I put lot of effort working on it in my spare time.
